A Place of Gratitude and Community

In 2019, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Poughkeepsie, under the care and guidance of Minister Viola Abbitt, warmly welcomed the early community of Hudson Valley Buddhist Vihara.
During this important beginning stage, this location became much more than a meeting place—it became a place we could call our home. Many meaningful Buddhist activities and community programs were held here, including Dhamma School, Buddhist ceremonies, meditation programs, yoga retreats, and other spiritual and cultural gatherings.
The kindness, generosity, and support extended to our community during those early years will always remain a cherished part of the history of Hudson Valley Buddhist Vihara.
With deep appreciation and gratitude, Nemal Imaduwa, a devoted supporter of our temple, presents this gift to Minister Viola Abbitt as a symbol of our heartfelt thanks for the friendship, hospitality, and support shown to our Buddhist community.
We remember this place with great gratitude—as one of the places where the Hudson Valley Buddhist Vihara community began to grow, gather, and flourish.
With sincere appreciation and metta,
Hudson Valley Buddhist Vihara
