Tribute Ceremony Honoring President Preethi Atulugama

“Garu hoti sagāravo”
One who shows respect receives respect in return.

A special Tribute Ceremony honoring Mr. Preethi Atulugama, President of the Hudson Valley Buddhist Vihara, was held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the Hudson Valley Hotel and Conference Center, 90 NY-17K, Newburgh, NY 12550.

This memorable occasion was organized by the Hudson Valley Sri Lankan Community in appreciation of Mr. Atulugama’s dedicated service, leadership, and commitment to the Buddhist community. The event was guided by Venerable Kurunegoda Dhammaloka Thero and Venerable Akiriye Deepananda Thero.

The program was a true collective effort of the Hudson Valley Buddhist Vihara community. Vice President Dilruk Sonnadarage and all committee members worked together with community supporters to make this special occasion possible. Nemal Imaduwa and Vajira Kariyawasam played an important role in leading and coordinating the effort, together with the entire committee and many dedicated members of the community.

Monks representing Buddhist temples from across the East Coast—including New York Buddhist Vihara, Staten Island Buddhist Vihara, Long Island Buddhist Vihara, Connecticut Buddhist Vihara, and Boston Buddhist Vihara—gathered to offer their blessings and honor his service. Two Christian church ministers also joined the occasion to extend their warm wishes, making the event a beautiful expression of unity, respect, and interfaith friendship.

For Mr. Atulugama, it was a deeply meaningful and unforgettable day—a heartfelt tribute from the community he has served with dedication and compassion.
